<p>Recently the house voted to cuts to Medicaid.&nbsp; Unfortunately our government wants to cut Medicaid, food stamps and social security.&nbsp; These entitlements are lifelines for many of our family members we care for as members of the sandwich generation.&nbsp; My dad has long term Medicaid, gets a monthly social security check and is on food stamps.&nbsp; Any cuts would definitely hit close to home.&nbsp; That adds pressure on me as his caretaker to supplement any lost funds on this he needs.&nbsp; I still have my own financial needs to address like mortgage, high utility bills and potential increase in property taxes.</p><p>Any government cuts would be a disaster. In social work, we use the term safety planning.&nbsp; Members of the sandwich generation now more than ever to safety plan when it comes to our finances.&nbsp; Find ways to cut back.&nbsp; It could be simple things like change cell phone carriers, make coffee at home compared to buying daily coffee.&nbsp; You would be surprised how much you'll save.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p>

Uncertainity regarding caregiving

<p>If you are on my email list, you saw my last email about my focus going into 2025 was to finally roll over my old Roth IRA accounts and my Traditional IRA accounts.&nbsp; It has been overwhelming at times, getting mail from all the different accounts I have.&nbsp; Since 2019, I have had Five 9-5 jobs and having these different accounts in these former jobs.&nbsp;</p><p>Well yesterday I finally went to my local Charles Schwab office and rolled over one Traditional IRA account and two Roth IRA accounts.&nbsp; The rollover process has definitely been a learning experience.&nbsp; It has been time consuming but I know my future me with thank me current me.</p><p>I still have a ways to go before retiring.&nbsp; I'm sure many of you feel you have to play catch up, save, invest in order to have enough money to retire.&nbsp; You are not alone.&nbsp; I'm in the same boat.</p>

I gotta make sure the kids are doing well in school, working, caring for my dad, being a good husband.&nbsp; It can be a lot.&nbsp; Worried about Trump's potential Medicaid cuts and other entitlements that would affect how I care for dad.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Since the start of the year, I have been focused on finally rolling over these old IRA accounts into one IRA.&nbsp; The process has been taking longer than I had hoped.&nbsp; I know it will get done and I just have to be patient.&nbsp; Trying to joggle my own finances along with caring for two sets of generations is not for the faint of heart.&nbsp;</p>
